USAA to Honor Those Who Made 250 Years of Freedom Possible
Through partnerships, events and community engagements, USAA will celebrate the service members whose sacrifices helped shape America’s first 250 years
SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, USAA is launching a year-long nationwide effort to honor the service members, veterans and military families whose sacrifices helped make this milestone possible. As an organization founded by military officers and built to serve the military community, USAA recognizes the broader spirit of service that has strengthened our nation across generations. Through community events across the nation, the company will celebrate the enduring connection between military service, and the freedoms Americans have enjoyed for nearly two and half centuries.
“America’s 250th anniversary is a moment to recognize the generations of Americans who answered the call to serve our country,” said Juan C. Andrade, President and CEO of USAA. “Some wore the uniform of our Armed Forces, while others served our nation in different but equally meaningful ways. Through their sacrifice, courage and commitment to something greater than themselves, they helped preserve the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy today. We are proud to honor their service and ensure their stories remain at the center of this historic milestone.”
Throughout the year, USAA will bring communities together to celebrate service members past and present through special programming and events centered on community, sacrifice and giving back.
Celebrating 250 Years of Service and Freedom
Through a series of commemorative events and partnerships across sports, culture, music, service and more, USAA will honor the generations of service members whose service, sacrifice, and patriotism helped make America’s 250th anniversary possible. These efforts are designed to celebrate the military community while bringing Americans together in gratitude and remembrance, including:
- The National Military Monument: This summer, USAA will bring The National Military Monument to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. This first-of-its-kind digital installation will honor service members starting with the Revolutionary War and throughout U.S. history. The names of service members past and present will be digitally displayed on the monument as a moving tribute to the millions who dedicated their lives in service to our country. Visit USAA.com/America250 for dates and location.
- Minor League Baseball: Throughout July, USAA will offer complimentary tickets to active-duty service members, veterans, and USAA members at select games across more than 100 teams nationwide.
- One Flag Forward: USAA is sponsoring One Flag Forward, a 250-mile relay, organized by wear blue: run to remember and Team Red, White & Blue, from New York City to Washington, D.C., where veterans, service members, families, and supporters will carry the American flag as a moving tribute to service and sacrifice. The relay will kick off on September 12, following the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
- Giving Back to Our Communities: To support America’s 250th anniversary, USAA will be activating its employee base for volunteer opportunities across the country through USAA's Honor Through Action and local community initiatives. With an ambitious goal of 250,000 service hours, the Association will be joining brands across the country in creating meaningful community change as a celebration of the nation and those within it. This will culminate with a USAA-wide day of service. Members will also have the opportunity to get involved through giving programs centered on Honor Through Action, directing support to non-profits that advance service, opportunity and civic engagement across the country.
USAA’s history has long reflected that of the military members and families it serves. From supporting members overseas during World War II to expanding eligibility to enlisted personnel in 1995, the company has evolved alongside the military community while remaining steadfast in its commitment to those who serve. Supporting those who serve has been at the heart of USAA’s mission for more than a century, making America’s 250th anniversary a natural opportunity to recognize the enduring contributions of the military community to our nation’s story.
