Aeva Brings on D2 Traffic Team in Exclusive Partnership for Full-Stack Smart Infrastructure Solutions
Aeva Transitions from LiDAR Sensor Supplier to Full Solution Provider for Intelligent Transportation Systems Segment
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aeva® (Nasdaq: AEVA), a leader in next-generation sensing and perception systems, today announced an exclusive partnership with D2 Traffic Technologies (D2) to strengthen Aeva’s portfolio of LiDAR-based smart infrastructure solutions for intersections, highways, and urban corridors. Through the partnership, D2’s veteran team of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) experts joins Aeva to accelerate the company’s momentum in the market. Their expertise strengthens Aeva’s transition from a LiDAR supplier to a full-solution provider delivering sensing, perception, monitoring, and analytics for traffic management across the U.S.
The U.S. ITS market represents one of the largest opportunities for LiDAR technology, with roughly 15 million intersections and more than 300,000 traffic signals across the country, contributing to over $20 billion in annual congestion costs.
“The D2 team brings strong leadership and industry expertise in smart infrastructure, and we’re excited to welcome them to Aeva,” said James Byun, Managing Director of Business Development at Aeva. “Together, our technology and expertise will provide streamlined full-stack ITS solutions from LiDAR sensing to perception and analytics to enhance traffic safety, reduce congestion, and deliver smarter mobility experiences for cities and citizens alike.”
“Our team is dedicated to helping transportation agencies improve safety and mobility,” said Sooyoung Kang, Founder of D2 Traffic Technologies. “In Aeva, we found a partner with the technology, resources and vision to take that mission to become a market leader in ITS. Together, we are empowering cities with the tools they need to build smarter, safer infrastructure that works for everyone.”
Aeva’s ITS solutions aim to help municipalities and transportation agencies modernize their infrastructure with advanced perception capabilities that improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability. The exclusive agreement enables a unified sensing architecture built on Aeva’s 4D LiDAR sensors and perception technology that supports consistent, high-quality data and analytics across intersections, highway corridors, and urban traffic networks.
Aeva’s Atlas Orion™ 4D LiDAR sensors are designed and certified for ITS applications. They combine ultra-long-range performance with precise object detection and instantaneous velocity data, enabling infrastructure systems to sense in four dimensions—3D position plus instant velocity—for real-time differentiation between moving and stationary objects. Each sensor provides vehicle detection at distances up to 500 meters and can identify pedestrians and cyclists at long distances, even in challenging lighting or weather conditions. Built for demanding outdoor environments, Atlas Orion sensors feature Power over Ethernet connectivity for simple installation, NEMA-TS2 certification for reliability, and inherent immunity to interference, glare, and blooming effects common in camera-based systems.
Importantly, unlike camera solutions, Aeva sensors capture precise range, velocity, and position data without relying on visual imagery, offering cities a privacy-preserving way to enhance traffic safety and management. This unique capability supports Aeva’s vision for future-ready, connected, and intelligent mobility infrastructure that prioritizes both safety and efficiency in our cities and on the highways.
