Northwell Named No. 3 Healthiest Workplace in America

2025 marks sixth consecutive year that Northwell has placed in Top 10 of the Healthiest 100 Places to Work in America

NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Northwell Health has been recognized as one of the three healthiest companies in the nation, based on a 100-point comparison and measuring six essential values, according to the health analytics firm Springbuk’s Healthiest Employers program. This marks the sixth consecutive year that Northwell has placed in the Top 10 of the Healthiest 100 Places to Work in America – its highest ranking yet.

The Healthiest 100 Places to Work in America recognizes organizations for their health-focused programs and resources, team member engagement and commitment to promoting a culture of well-being. Northwell, the largest nonprofit health system in the Northeast, is the lone New York-based business to make the Top 100 list in 2025.

“Northwell’s No. 3 ranking isn’t just a number – it’s a celebration of our commitment to be healthy together, supported by a culture that empowers us to use our well-being resources so everyone can thrive and live healthier lives,” said John D’Angelo, MD, Northwell’s president and CEO. “This recognition reflects the collaborative efforts of all the teams who lead our well-being strategy and countless champions who have helped shape and implement our strategy.”

Springbuk’s health assessment examined organizations across six categories:

  • Culture and leadership commitment
  • Foundational components
  • Strategic planning
  • Communications and marketing
  • Programming and interventions
  • Reporting and analytics

Northwell was recently named an Age-Friendly Employer, one of Fortune’s Best Workplaces in Healthcare, Modern Healthcare’s Best Places to Work and a Time 100 Most Influential Companies 2025.

As part of its Healthiest Employers program application process, Northwell highlighted three impactful programs:

  • Domestic violence awareness initiative provided safety, support and referrals to 72 team members who came forward with domestic/intimate partner violence as their primary/secondary concern.
  • Exercise challenges, which over the past decade has served as an opportunity for engagement and education while reinforcing well-being through team-focused movement.
  • Overdose awareness training, which most recently resulted in an employee saving someone’s life on the highway with a Narcan kit, which they received training on to use from Northwell.

“At Northwell, health care is our business and well-being is our mission,” said Maxine Carrington, JD, senior vice president and Northwell’s chief people officer. “We are committed to ensuring that our 105,000-plus team members and their families remain healthy and thrive. Our well-being programs are designed to help us fulfill this commitment.”
