National Duals Invitational Introduces $50,000 in Team Takedown Bonuses, Adding to $1 Million Prize Pool
OKLAHOMA CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The National Duals Invitational, a groundbreaking $1 million collegiate wrestling event sponsored by Paycom, is adding another twist to its opening day with $50,000 of team takedown bonuses designed to reward aggressive starts and teamwide intensity. The marquee tournament takes place Nov. 15-16 at the BOK Center in Tulsa.
Teams will compete for five separate $10,000 bonuses, awarded during each first-day session to the squad with the fastest average takedown time. Each team’s five fastest takedowns, recorded by five different wrestlers, will be averaged to determine each session’s winner. Takedown times will only be measured from the beginning of the first period.
“The team takedown bonus makes the first day of competition even more exciting for both teams and fans,” said Matt Surber, tournament director of the National Duals Invitational. “This bonus rewards programs that set the tone early and wrestle with an attacking mindset. Every second from that opening whistle will matter. Between Saturday’s takedown bonuses and Sunday’s bracket payouts, teams now have more opportunities than ever to earn meaningful dollars for their programs.”
The addition of the team takedown bonus adds an extra layer of competition to an already unprecedented prize purse totaling more than $1 million. The top eight teams will earn payouts, with the winning squad walking away with $200,000. The second- and third-place teams will earn $150,000, while fourth place will earn $75,000. Fifth- through eighth-place payouts will be, respectively: $50,000, $40,000, $25,000 and $20,000. All participating teams will receive $20,000 for attending.
Takedown bonuses will be awarded during both the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. matchups of the opening round, as well as the quarterfinals (5 p.m.) and the two consolation rounds (3 p.m. and 7 p.m.). One team will win the $10,000 bonus per round, and a team may win the bonus in multiple rounds.
FloWrestling will stream 27 duals live and provide extensive coverage ahead of the event. The championship final will air live at 6 p.m. CST on ESPNU as the two finalists collide for the $200,000 grand prize.
Together, the 16 programs represent some of the most storied traditions in collegiate wrestling, combining for more than 60 NCAA team titles and over 450 individual national champions.
Tickets are available for purchase through Ticketmaster and the BOK Center Box Office.
