Totem Compass Achieves Record Adoption at Lost Lands, Its Largest Festival Deployment Yet

Surpassing 40,000 shipments and 500 million views, the Totem Compass reaches a new milestone for mass adoption.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Totem, Inc. today announced its largest real-world deployment yet of the Totem Compass, the offline, wearable navigation tool built for live events. At Lost Lands Festival in September, up to 3,500 Totems were estimated to be on-site—representing 4–6% festival-wide adoption. Combined with overwhelmingly positive feedback coming from the event, this cements Totem’s status as essential gear for music lovers navigating massive crowds without reliable cell service.

The milestone adds to a breakout first year for Totem, with more than 40,000 GPS tracker wearables shipped worldwide and over 500 million social video views driven almost entirely through organic reach.

With seven stages and record-breaking attendance across Legend Valley, cell networks were pushed to their limits, with many people unable to send even a text message. Thousands of attendees relied on the Totem Compass to reunite with friends effortlessly, send SOS alerts, and explore the festival without having to stare at their phones.

Following the event, attendees have flocked to Reddit and social media to share stories about how the festival compass transformed their experience:

  • “My Lost Lands music festival experience was the BEST and Totem played a huge part in that. They worked amazingly!”
  • “Our Totems helped my 2 friends and I all link up independently at the rail mainstage closing ceremony and at the Crater! It was awesome, it really takes the anxiety away from being separated.”
  • “They worked AMAZINGLY at Lost Lands. I found my friend being SO FAR away from them and literally led me right to them. I am 100% going to be buying more in the future.”

Many more shared similar stories online on the new Totem Compass reddit community, r/TotemCompass, fueling the startup’s viral momentum and expanding cultural reach for the friend-finding device.

“Lost Lands gave us a glimpse of the future to come,” said Carter Fowler, Co-Founder and CEO of Totem. “Watching thousands of people use the Unity Mesh Network navigate crowds and easily reunite with their groups—it was a beautiful sight. It’s clear that the Totem Compass is becoming an essential tool for this community.”

With festival season coming to a head in November, Totem expects an increasing variety of Totem Compass deployments ahead as adoption surges across location-based entertainment, including amusement parks, outdoor adventures, and family travel.

“Adoption is being fueled from the community up, not the top down,” Fowler added. “When people experience the relief of staying together effortlessly and the joy of being present in the moment, they want to tell their friends all about it. That organic excitement is what’s propelling Totem into the mainstream.”
