Veteran Tax Leader Joins AI Startup Combating Financial Crimes

Rettig brings over four decades of compliance expertise and public sector leadership to IVIX, including his tenure as IRS Commissioner from 2018-2022. As Commissioner, he presided over the nation’s tax system, managing an agency of more than 83,000 employees and an annual budget of more than $14.1 billion generating annual gross revenue of approximately $4.9 trillion (representing more than 95% of the gross revenue of the United States). Under his leadership, the IRS navigated through critical challenges, including COVID, implementing changes in tax legislation, the modernization of IRS systems and numerous new initiatives to aggressively combat tax evasion and financial crimes. In recognition of his IRS leadership, Commissioner Rettig received the Alexander Hamilton Award, the highest honor for individuals selected by the Secretary of the U.S. Treasury.

Before becoming IRS Commissioner, he long served as an Advisory Board Member for the CA Franchise Tax Board and the CA State Board of Equalization. He is also a co-founder of the UCLA Extension VETS COUNT Scholarship Fund designed to provide scholarships for active duty and retired military personnel who are working to realize their career goals in tax, accounting, and wealth management. Rettig is also currently serving as a Board Member/Senior Advisor on behalf of various next-generation technology organizations as well as firms providing advanced blockchain investigation and recovery tools and insights for law enforcement agencies, financial institutions, and threat intelligence platforms.
