A veteran CEO, investor, and Director, Capellas brings a wealth of experience leading global technology companies, as well as deep supply chain leadership experience that spans both operations and software.

As President, CEO, and later Chairman of the board at Compaq, Capellas helped to build the world’s largest PC manufacturer and led the company through the merger with Hewlett-Packard to form the largest computer business in the world. As CEO and Chairman of WorldCom, later MCI, he helped rebuild the company after its bankruptcy into the world’s largest internet traffic business and led its sale to Verizon Communications Inc. He was Chairman and CEO of financial technology firm First Data Corp., and held both CEO and Chairman positions at cloud computing platform company VCE Company.

As a Director, Capellas has steered some of the world’s most successful hardware and software technology companies. He was the Chairman of the Board at Cisco and now serves as its lead independent Director. He served as the Chairman of Flextronics, the largest contract electronics manufacturer, and as the Chairman and turnaround leader of Blue Yonder, now one of the world’s biggest supply chain software companies. He served as Lead Director of Mulesoft, and as a Director at HP and Tenable. Earlier in his career, Michael served in executive roles at SAP and Oracle.

“Michael brings a wealth of expertise in corporate governance, financial markets, and board leadership, and his deep operating insights and knowledge, especially in the supply chain domain, make him an invaluable mentor to me and asset to Altana,” said Altana Chief Executive Officer Evan Smith. “Michael dramatically raises the bar and the ceiling for Altana.”

Capellas said: “Altana is solving the problems I’ve been working on for decades, and the turbulence and dislocation across the supply chain in recent years make the company’s solutions all the more urgent. This company has all the pieces — it has the people, the customers, the capital, and the data foundation to help the public and private sectors navigate these generational changes.”

Michael joins Altana’s board following Altana's $200 million Series C investment. Led by the US Innovative Technology Fund, the funding round brought the company's valuation to $1 billion. The infusion of capital is fueling the development of Altana’s product network and go-to-market efforts, enabling the company to help enterprises, logistics providers, and regulators face the upheavals and opportunities in a new era of global commerce.
