CPChem's NanoSlide™ Drilling Fluid Sets New Standard for Lubrication with Multiphase Technology

THE WOODLANDS, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Drilling Specialties, in collaboration with Chevron Phillips Chemical’s polyalphaolefins organization, announced today the launch of NanoSlide™ drilling fluid lubricant, a proprietary next-generation drilling fluid product designed to deliver exceptional wear reduction and friction control in high-demand drilling environments.

NanoSlide™ lubricant features a multiphase formulation that combines micronized graphene and Synfluid® PAO. Together, these components form a durable tribofilm that protects drill pipe surfaces under extreme pressure and temperature conditions. Drawing on insights from Drilling Specialties’ Tribex™ ERD dry lubricant, the formulation was refined through tribometer testing at CPChem’s Research and Technology facility in Kingwood, Texas. Using Stribeck curve analysis, the team identified optimal component concentrations, consistently achieving a coefficient of friction below 0.05, outperforming current industry standards.

“NanoSlide™ lubricant represents a major leap forward in drilling fluid technology,” said Nick Palmer, business manager at Drilling Specialties. “This product reflects our commitment to innovation, collaboration and solving real-world challenges for our customers.”

The formulation offers several technical advantages, including graphene-enhanced lubricity and asperity filling, sustained wear protection through tribofilm formation, broad compatibility with various pH levels and brine types, and strong shear stability with reliable low-temperature performance.

NanoSlide™ lubricants have been field tested in real-world conditions. In a recent trial, the team saw success in the Bakken Formation, a major underground oil and gas deposit located beneath North Dakota and Montana, with significant reduction in pipe wear and drill time.

NanoSlide™ lubricant offers the drilling industry a technically advanced, cost-effective solution designed to enhance operational efficiency and extend equipment life.
