Cathay Bank Participates in CFA Institute Research Challenge

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cathay Bank is proud to announce its participation in the CFA Institute Research Challenge, an annual global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and training in financial analysis and professional ethics.

“We are thrilled to be part of this research challenge, as it reinforces our commitment to the younger generations and our support of education, professional development, and community engagement,” said Chang M. Liu, President and CEO. “It is also important to understand the perspective of the next generation of financial leaders.”

The research challenge evaluates students on their analytical, valuation, report writing, and presentation skills, providing them with valuable real-world experience as they take on the role of research analysts. Students’ written reports and presentations are judged at the local level, with winners progressing to submit their presentations for sub-regional competition. This process continues with regional semifinals, followed by regional finals, and culminates in a global final scheduled for May 2026.

Teams are assigned subject companies, all of which are publicly traded, by local hosts—members and volunteers from CFA Society Los Angeles—who serve as the foundation for the written report and presentation. One of the benefits of participating is the opportunity to obtain unbiased research about the assigned company. A team of students, whose subject company is Cathay Bank, met with senior executives Liu, and Al Wang, EVP, Deputy CFO, at the Bank’s corporate office for an informational session earlier this month.

"Being selected as a subject company provides the bank with significant recognition while giving students a unique opportunity to analyze a real financial institution," said Wang. "Engaging with these bright, aspiring professionals has been a rewarding experience."
