Morgan Stanley Alliance for Children’s Mental Health Marks Five Years with New Grants

  • Morgan Stanley Alliance for Children’s Mental Health has reached over 52 million children, caregivers and educators globally since launching in 2020
  • $15 million in new multi-year grants announced for Alliance members to expand programming and impact

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Morgan Stanley today announced $15 million in new multi-year grants to members of its Alliance for Children’s Mental Health (“the Alliance”), as part of the firm’s $50 million commitment to advancing youth mental health solutions. The Alliance brings together leading nonprofits and supports transformative initiatives that strategically address the challenges of stress, anxiety and depression in young people. Since the Alliance’s launch in 2020, over 52 million children, caregivers and educators have been reached through its programming and resources.

“Morgan Stanley is proud of the Alliance’s work to address the mental wellbeing of young people as part of our longstanding commitment to children’s health,” said Ted Pick, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Morgan Stanley and Chair of the Morgan Stanley Alliance for Children’s Mental Health Advisory Board. “Together with our members, the Alliance has supported the mental health needs of millions of children, and we look forward to having continued impact in the years to come.”

New grants will be provided to the following Alliance members to support greater reach and impact:

  • The Child Mind Institute will scale training for educators and school-based clinicians to provide evidence-based mental health support to students across the U.S.
  • The Columbia University Department of Psychiatry will research smartphone interventions to improve clinical outcomes for depressed adolescents and expand community-based mental health care to young people in New York City.
  • The Jed Foundation (JED) will expand its work with Pre-K-12 school districts and high schools, guiding them on how to enhance systems of support for student mental health across the U.S.
  • The Steve Fund will provide resources, support and new platforms for U.S. college students, families, nonprofits, and educators to drive mental health, academic persistence and career success.
  • Place2Be will deliver mental health support, train counselors and pilot innovative services to improve the emotional wellbeing and life prospects of children and young people in London, U.K.
  • Mind HK will increase public knowledge of mental health and provide young people with mental health literacy training and psychological support for depression and anxiety in Hong Kong.

Additional members of the Alliance include the American Academy of Pediatrics and Sesame Workshop. Both organizations joined in 2024, expanding the initiative’s reach to early childhood care and workforce development for pediatrics.

The Alliance’s Innovation Awards, launched in 2021, have provided funding and capacity-building support to nonprofits across the U.S. to scale innovative solutions in mental health care. In 2024, the Alliance launched the Leadership Learning Series to extend its reach to early-stage organizations seeking to grow their programming for greater impact.

“The Alliance has made much-needed strides to foster awareness, collaboration and innovation to ensure that children have the mental health support they need to grow and thrive,” said Joan Steinberg, President of the Morgan Stanley Foundation and CEO of the Alliance Advisory Board. “Our work is far from over as there remains an urgent need for greater attention and funding for children’s mental health.”
