T&S Brass Emphasizes End-User Safety as Faucet Recalls Highlight Compliance Gaps
TRAVELERS REST, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In light of recent faucet recalls following the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) warning about imported faucets with elevated lead levels, T&S Brass and Bronze Works, Inc., is renewing its call for greater scrutiny in commercial plumbing procurement. As regulatory action expands, industry professionals are urged to take a closer look at how and where potable water products are sourced and evaluated.
The affected products failed to meet the Safe Drinking Water Act and NSF/ANSI 61 standards for lead leaching, prompting the CPSC to urge consumers to stop using them immediately. While some manufacturers have since agreed to recall their products, many non-compliant plumbing fixture fittings remain readily available, making it critical for specifiers to remain alert and informed.
“These developments are a stark reminder that not every product on the market has been built, tested, or certified to meet the standards we rely on,” said Jeff Baldwin, Director of Engineering & Compliance at T&S Brass. “Professionals who specify these products have a responsibility to go beyond marketing claims and verify third-party certifications, material safety data, and supplier credibility.”
Lead is a toxic metal that can cause serious and lasting harm, even in small amounts. According to the CDC, exposure through drinking water can disrupt brain development, damage the nervous system, and impair organ function. Infants, young children, and pregnant women are especially vulnerable, as even low-level exposure during critical developmental periods can lead to cognitive delays, behavioral challenges, and long-term health complications.
“The CPSC warning primarily addressed residential faucets, but the risk escalates significantly when noncompliant products make their way into commercial environments,” Baldwin added. “In foodservice, healthcare, or education environments, a single faucet can affect thousands of people. That’s why professionals in the commercial space have a responsibility to be especially diligent. Breakdowns in sourcing or oversight directly endanger the people these systems are meant to protect.”
As a leading manufacturer of high-quality commercial faucets and plumbing fixture fittings for nearly 80 years, T&S has long advocated for third-party verification, material traceability, and rigorous in-house testing as standard procedure. All potable water products from T&S are certified lead-free to NSF/ANSI 61 and 372 standards and manufactured under strict quality control protocols.
“When it comes to faucets delivering potable water in high-impact environments, convenience should never take precedent over consumer safety,” said Baldwin. “We encourage professionals to look for products with valid third-party certifications, request material documentation such as a lead content declaration, confirm the product is listed by a recognized testing agency, and ensure sourcing and manufacturing locations are clearly disclosed. If a vendor is unwilling to provide that information, that’s a signal to reconsider.”
