This Spring, Step into Action with Breast Cancer Canada

Walk-a-Thon to Mother’s Day Returns to Advance Research Across Canada

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Breast Cancer Canada’s highly anticipated annual Walk-a-Thon to Mother’s Day returns this spring to advance breast cancer research. This year, Naturally Vain proudly joins as the presenting sponsor, helping drive real progress for families affected by breast cancer across the country.

“As a proudly Canadian company, Naturally Vain is honoured to be this year’s Presenting Sponsor of the Walk-a-Thon to Mother’s Day,” says Melissa Bootsma, Founder of Naturally Vain Corp. “Supporting breast cancer research is a cause close to our hearts, and we’re inspired by the strength and resilience of the countless families touched by this disease. We believe in giving back to the community, and we’re challenging other businesses to join us in walking alongside Canadians from coast to coast to help create a future without breast cancer.”

This event isn’t just about fundraising—it’s a chance to honour the mothers, grandmothers, sisters, colleagues, and friends in our lives. Last year, proceeds from this nationwide event helped fund Canadian breast cancer researchers from coast to coast, and each year, thousands of Canadians come together to continue advancing this life-changing research.

For moms like Laura Montgomery, the Mother’s Day Walk holds a deeply personal meaning. Diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer at just 30 years old, she first discovered a lump herself but was repeatedly told she was too young for cancer.

“Six years ago, my world changed when I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer,” said Montgomery. “Thanks to the power of research, I’ve had access to treatments that have given me time I never thought I’d have. I want that for every person facing breast cancer. Every dollar raised moves us closer to more breakthroughs—that’s why I am walking this Mother’s Day in Mississauga.”

This Mother’s Day, participants will walk in support of life-changing breast cancer research, raising funds to drive new discoveries and improve outcomes for those affected by the disease.

Walk Your Way, From Wherever You Are
From coast to coast, Canadians are stepping up. Whether you’re joining in person or walking in your own way, your participation fuels progress.

"Last year, two of our top fundraising teams were incredible community-builders who organized their own fundraisers," says Kimberly Carson, CEO of Breast Cancer Canada. "Cara Beson in Gander, Newfoundland, and Lorie Crawford in Edmonton, Alberta, went above and beyond, rallying their local communities to raise thousands for breast cancer research. It’s a testament to the incredible passion of Canadians who are deeply committed to ensuring better outcomes for those facing breast cancer."

Cara, walking daily as part of her breast cancer recovery, reminded those around her of the importance of screening. Lorie, fresh off her final chemotherapy treatment, turned her journey into a mission to inspire others. Their dedication proves that when Canadians unite for research, real progress happens.

Investing in Canadian research means investing in the future of breast cancer care right here at home
From Halifax to Vancouver, Breast Cancer Canada researchers across the country are driving innovation, uncovering new treatments, and improving outcomes for Canadians who need it most. Every dollar raised through the Walk-a-Thon supports groundbreaking work in Canadian labs, ensuring that discoveries made here directly benefit the patients and families facing breast cancer in our communities.

"Canada is home to some of the world’s brightest minds in breast cancer research," says Kimberly Carson, CEO of Breast Cancer Canada. "By funding Canadian-led studies, we’re not only advancing science but also ensuring that research translates into early detection, better treatments and improved care for patients right here at home. Progress happens when we invest in it."

Breast Cancer Canada’s Walk-a-Thon to Mother’s Day allows families, friends, coworkers, and community groups to create their own walk leading up to Mother’s Day. Whether it’s a family hike in your favourite park, a lunchtime walking club at the office, or pledging to walk or run in the weeks leading up to Mother’s Day, every step fuels progress.
