NaphCare Selected by New Mexico Corrections Department to Provide Electronic Health Record Technology in the State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. & SANTA FE, N.M.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NaphCare, Inc., a leading correctional healthcare company, is proud to announce completion of full implementation of TechCare for the New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD) across 10 prisons statewide to a total of 5,700 residents. TechCare is NaphCare’s industry-leading electronic health record (EHR), specifically designed to manage and meet the unique needs of patient populations in correctional settings.

This contract for EHR services is the first for the NMCD, who previously operated using paper records, and represents a significant step toward modernizing the department’s effectiveness in streamlining healthcare management while ensuring compliance with national standards.

"We’re proud of this new service,” said NMCD Cabinet Secretary Alisha Tafoya Lucero. “It is a significant step forward in improving healthcare services and equips our department to better meet the unique needs of those entrusted to our care.”

With this project, TechCare is integrated with the NMCD’s offender management system, pharmacy provider, laboratory and radiology services, immunization registry, and the State of New Mexico Health Information Exchange. NaphCare is also planning deployment of their MyCare Patient Portal application to resident tablets enabling real-time communication between patients and healthcare staff. This paperless system and level of integration ultimately improves access to medical and mental health services, continuity of care and overall health outcomes for NMCD residents.

“Our collaborative partnership with NMCD allowed for a very successful and timely deployment of the TechCare system,” said Byron Harrison, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for NaphCare. “We are extremely pleased with the results and are looking forward to upcoming enhancements to the platform, which will further the mission of NMCD and promote access to a higher standard of care for those they serve.”

TechCare is currently implemented in 233 local and state correctional facilities across the U.S., managing over 154,000 active patient records daily. This contract with the NMCD adds to NaphCare and TechCare’s growing presence in statewide departments of corrections (DOC), as they have several partnerships to provide TechCare EHR to the state DOCs in Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Montana, New Hampshire, Virginia and Wyoming.
