BELLEVUE, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bellevue University has updated its RN to BSN program by reducing the total degree requirement to 95 credits, creating a more efficient pathway for working registered nurses. The CCNE-accredited program recognizes prior education, and emphasizes practical application through a workplace-based practicum.

Updated Program Structure Supports Working Nurses

Bellevue University redesigned its RN to BSN program to create a more efficient pathway for registered nurses to earn a bachelor’s degree. The updated 95-credit structure reflects how nurses enter the program—with significant prior coursework and professional experience—and allows them to focus on the competencies needed to advance in today’s healthcare environment.

The program serves registered nurses who hold an associate degree or diploma and want to build on their existing education. Students complete nine courses in sequence within a cohort. Each course runs six weeks, and students take one course at a time while continuing to work.

The curriculum includes 32 nursing credit hours within the 95-credit bachelor’s degree. Students can transfer 60+ credits and apply prior coursework toward degree completion.

“This update reflects a deliberate decision to meet nurses where they are,” said Dr. Mary Dobransky, Dean, College of Science and Technology. “By reducing the total credit requirement, we’ve created a more efficient pathway that respects their experience while focusing on leadership, data-informed practice, and applied learning—preparing nurses to take on greater responsibility and contribute to patient and organizational outcomes.”

Applied Learning Connects Coursework to Practice

The program integrates a practicum into the final course. Students can complete a project at their current workplace or an approved local healthcare organization, focusing on leadership, quality improvement, and performance outcomes within their work environment.

Coursework covers professional nursing practice, leadership, informatics, research, population health, and healthcare regulation. Students apply evidence-based practice and use healthcare data to support patient care and organizational goals. Graduates are prepared to pursue leadership roles and certifications such as the Certified Nurse Manager and Leader credential.
