Great Day Improvements Releases Inaugural ‘State of American Home Renovation’ Report

Survey of more than 3,000 U.S. homeowners uncovers renovation priorities, emotional drivers and emerging trends shaping home improvement in 2026

CLEVELAND--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nearly two-thirds of U.S. homeowners completed a renovation project in the past year, according to Great Day Improvements’ inaugural State of American Home Renovation report, released today. Based on a nationwide survey of more than 3,000 homeowners, the report examines renovation priorities, emotional drivers and emerging trends shaping the home improvement market.

Rather than focusing on resale value alone, the research also highlights a broader shift in homeowner mindset: Americans are renovating to better live in the homes they already own.

“Home renovation is both practical and deeply personal,” said Drew Weinfurtner, president and CEO of Great Day Improvements. “This year’s report shows homeowners want spaces that feel more personal and comfortable—places that better support everyday life when moving isn’t always an option.”

Inside the Report

The State of American Home Renovation examines how homeowners are thinking about home improvement today, including:

  • Shifting renovation priorities beyond resale value
  • Project categories gaining momentum nationwide
  • Emotional factors influencing renovation decisions
  • Key barriers homeowners face when renovating

The findings point to continued interest in high-impact projects that enhance daily living, along with growing attention to energy efficiency and overall home performance.

A New Annual Benchmark for the Industry

Designed as an annual report, the State of American Home Renovation establishes a baseline for tracking how homeowner priorities evolve amid economic pressures, housing market constraints and evolving lifestyles. Great Day Improvements plans to build on these insights in future editions, offering ongoing perspectives directly from homeowners themselves.

The full report includes national insights, generational trends and regional perspectives drawn from respondents across all U.S. regions.
