United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County Announces CEO Transition Process
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County (UBGC) announced today that Chief Executive Officer Michael Baker will step down from his role after 11 years of dedicated service. As part of the organization’s succession planning process, the Board of Directors has appointed Christianne Rojo, the current Chief Operating Officer, as Interim President. The board has initiated a formal search process to identify the organization’s next CEO with the support of a leading executive search firm. The search committee is led by Chairman of the Board Nicholas Behrman, Jason Atyabi, Dr. Carol Del Ciello, and Taylor Miller.
Baker has spent his entire professional career working for the Boys & Girls Clubs. Under his leadership, UBGC has grown its impact and strengthened its mission to provide safe, supportive environments where youth, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, can realize their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. During his tenure, UBGC opened two new club spaces in Solvang and Buellton, and guided the organization through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring essential programs and services continued without interruption.
Rojo joined the organization in 2021 and previously served as Vice President of Operations before being named Chief Operating Officer. She will continue to lead and oversee the day-to-day operations. Rojo holds a master’s degree in public administration from California State University, Northridge.
“Over the last decade, I’ve had the privilege of seeing thousands of young people discover their potential while working alongside an extraordinary staff, a committed Board of Directors, and a community that always puts kids first. Together, we have built a strong and lasting organization, one where kids know they are safe, supported, and never turned away. After nearly 11 years, I believe this is the right moment to pass the baton to the next leader who will build upon our accomplishments and continue advancing the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs,” said Baker.
“Michael has given his heart and soul to this work, and the results are seen not only in stronger programs and expanded opportunities, but in the thousands of kids and families whose lives have been touched,” said Board Chair Nicholas Behrman. “On behalf of the Board, we are deeply grateful for his leadership and proud of the strong, stable foundation he has built. We are fortunate that the organization is well-positioned for the future, with strong leadership, dedicated staff, and a clear vision. This transition is a natural step forward, allowing us to build on current successes while looking ahead with renewed energy.”
During the transition, the senior leadership team will manage day-to-day operations to ensure programs and services continue seamlessly for the thousands of youths and families served annually across Santa Barbara County.
