Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts Launches New Campus, Scholarships, and Theater in Covington
COVINGTON, La.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts (LAAPA) is expanding its educational offerings with the opening of a new 5,000-square-foot facility in Covington. Scheduled to welcome students on September 29, the campus at 73115 LA-437 will provide music, dance, and acting classes for students of all ages.
As part of this expansion, LAAPA also announces its role as the primary tenant of Three Rivers Theater – the Northshore’s newest performance venue. Designed for the entire arts community, the theater features state-of-the-art audio and video technology and seating for up to 100 guests.
“Here’s the thing—what we do here isn’t just about teaching,” said Ryan Cullen, Executive Director at LAAPA. “Our faculty include some of the most inspiring professional educators on the Northshore in music, dance, and acting—but what truly drives us is creating life-changing experiences for our students.”
KC Tuazon, Senior Faculty Advisor, added perspective from years in arts education: “Seeing my students shift their mentality from ‘I can’t play this’ to ‘I can’t play this yet; I just need to work at it a little more,’ is exceptionally rewarding. Communication that builds up rather than breaks down lies at the heart of our lesson plans and our daily interactions, making progress visible both on and off the stage.”
The first theatrical production scheduled for performance at Three Rivers Theater will be “Puffs” – a parody depicting untold tales inspired by the Harry Potter series. Auditions will be held October 4.
To celebrate the Academy’s grand opening, and as part of its mission to share the joy of the performing arts, LAAPA is offering three one-year scholarships—one each in music, dance, and drama. Eligible applicants include residents of St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and the Greater New Orleans area ages 1.5–18. Current LAAPA students may also apply for additional programs of study outside their current discipline(s).
