Donor Alliance Announces National Donate Life Month 2025 Celebrations Across Colorado & Wyoming

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April marks National Donate Life Month, a special time to honor heroic organ, eye and tissue donors and their families, while raising awareness about the life-saving impact of donation. Donor Alliance, the nonprofit facilitating organ and tissue donation for transplantation in Colorado and most of Wyoming, observes the month each year alongside communities nationwide. Last year, 311 organ donors from the region made 947 life-saving transplants possible, highlighting the critical need for more registered donors.

When a donation occurs in a hospital, a Donate Life flag often flies to honor the gift of life—making flag-raising the cornerstone of this month-long observance. During April, this meaningful ritual extends beyond hospital grounds to unite entire communities in remembrance and support. Cities and towns across both states will issue proclamations declaring April as "Donate Life Month," while numerous locations illuminate in symbolic blue and green to highlight the life-saving potential. Some of this year’s notable lighting and flag raising events across both states include:

  • A lighting event at Sculpture Park in Denver on April 9 at 6:45 pm
  • A flag raising at a Casper Spurs game in Casper on April 2 at 12:00 pm
  • A proclamation reading by Denver City Council on April 7 at 3:30 pm

"Every April, we witness an extraordinary outpouring of community support that reminds us of the profound impact one decision can make," said Jennifer Prinz, president and CEO, Donor Alliance. "While we celebrate the remarkable generosity that defines the Rocky Mountain region, we must remember the nearly 1,300 neighbors still waiting for their second chance. Each flag raised and each light illuminated represents both a tribute to those who've given and a beacon of hope for those who wait. The ripple effect of donation extends far beyond individual lives—it strengthens entire communities."

Many driver license offices throughout the region will also feature blue and green decorations this month in support of the cause. The heart with the Y on your driver license indicates that you’re a part of the Donate Life Colorado or Donate Life Wyoming registry. People can register as organ, eye and tissue donors during their next DMV visit when obtaining or renewing their license.

Coloradans and Wyomingites are also invited to participate in the 'Shine A Light' campaign at home. This initiative drew inspiration from a Donor Alliance volunteer—both a heart and kidney recipient—who for more than two years lit candles for his "Angel Donor" to honor their gift of life. Free candle lighting kits are available at decidingondonation.org.

The decidingondonation.org website also features ideas for family activities on Pinterest and a special Spotify playlist where visitors can listen to the songs those connected to donation hold near their hearts. Additionally, community members can play word games all month long for a chance to win prizes.
