Cool Effect Releases Groundbreaking Impact Report, Setting a New Standard for Transparency in Carbon Markets

New Report Illustrates the Environmental & Socioeconomic Impact of $66 Million in Climate Finance

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cool Effect, a Bay Area based nonprofit that supports high integrity carbon emission reduction and removal projects around the globe, has released its first-ever Impact Report. The new report illustrates how over $66 million in carbon finance—generated through the sale of high-quality carbon credits—is driving measurable environmental and socioeconomic benefits to communities worldwide.

This landmark document demonstrates the nonprofit’s commitment to transparency but also serves as a testament to the impactful contributions to carbon projects over a period of five years, with data aggregated from January 2020 to December 2024. The findings highlight direct investments in forest conservation, methane reduction, clean energy access, biodiversity restoration, and community development.

“The release of our Impact Report is a pivotal moment for both Cool Effect and the voluntary carbon market as a whole. This report underscores our commitment to rigorous evaluation, accountability, and the transformative power of data,” said Jodi Manning, Chief Executive Officer of Cool Effect. “Through the report, Cool Effect demonstrates how its transparent pricing policy has mobilized substantial capital to support high quality projects that execute urgently needed climate mitigation.”

Key findings from the Impact Report include:

  • $66,152,974 sent to carbon projects between 2020-2024
  • 7,677,832 tonnes of carbon retired over five years
  • 43+ communities in Mexico supported through sustainable forestry initiatives
  • 350,000+ people impacted by clean cookstove programs, installing over 90,000 clean burning cookstoves and reducing household air pollution in homes by 47%
  • 1,189,223 tonnes of methane emissions destroyed, eliminating a potent greenhouse gas
  • 40,931,340 mangroves can be planted thanks to funds generated by Cool Effect projects, a vital component to restoring coastal ecosystems and strengthening climate resilience
  • 2,226,936 hectares of land protected, securing biodiversity and carbon sequestration benefits

For nearly a decade, Cool Effect has operated under the principle of Carbon Done Correctly, a commitment to supporting only the highest quality carbon projects that pass its rigorous vetting and selection process. The nonprofit has reviewed over 5,000 carbon projects throughout the course of its history with 54 projects (around 1%) having passed the organization’s rigorous evaluation and due diligence process.

“At Cool Effect, we believe that transparency is the cornerstone of meaningful climate action. For years, we've worked to cut through the noise and identify carbon projects that deliver real, measurable impact for our planet and its people,” said Dee Lawrence, Co-Founder and Director of Cool Effect. “With this landmark report, we are hoping to provide supporters with an idea of the magnitude of the impact they have had on people and the planet. The projects we feature used high-quality methodologies based on the best science of the time to deliver real mitigation.”
