Southeastern Grocers celebrates American Heart Month with $130,000 donation
Grocer’s community-driven support fuels lifesaving research and prevention efforts through Life is Why™ campaign
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In recognition of American Heart Month, Southeastern Grocers, LLC (SEG), parent company and home of Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie grocery stores, proudly announces a donation of $130,000 to the American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health, in support of its Life is Why™ campaign.
Throughout the three-week community donation program, SEG and its generous associates and customers contributed to funding groundbreaking research, critical survivor support services and essential prevention programs aimed at reducing the risks of heart disease and stroke. By donating $1, $5 or rounding up their grocery bills at checkout, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie customers demonstrated the true power of community, proving every small act of kindness can help save lives.
Anthony Hucker, Chairman, CEO and President of Southeastern Grocers, said, “At SEG, we take immense pride in strengthening our communities through powerful partnerships, including our ongoing collaboration with the American Heart Association. Heart disease and stroke affect the lives of millions of families, and the fight begins with awareness, prevention and research. As we observe American Heart Month, our hearts are profoundly touched by the generosity of our associates and customers who have come together to support this vital mission. Their contributions to the Life is Why campaign will directly impact the lives of those in our local communities, offering hope, healing and the promise of a heart-healthy future for all.”
Caitlin Brunell, Executive Director for the First Coast American Heart Association, said, “We are incredibly grateful for the support and commitment from SEG and their compassionate associates and customers who have united for our mission to promote longer, healthier lives. Every dollar donated represents hope for someone’s parent, child, friend or neighbor – funding lifesaving research, providing critical prevention programs and supporting survivors on their journey to recovery.”
The Life is Why campaign empowers individuals to take control of their heart health by recognizing their personal reasons for living longer, healthier lives. As a proud partner of the American Heart Association, SEG has contributed more than $1.6 million to advance the nonprofit’s mission of fighting heart disease and stroke.
SEG encourages everyone to prioritize heart health this American Heart Month and year-round by making small yet impactful changes, from maintaining a balanced diet to staying active and knowing their risk factors.
