FLUX Urges Action Against Dangerous Youth Sports Legislation

Transgender advocacy group launches campaign to stop Senate Bill S.9 which discriminates against trans and intersex youth and endangers young women and girls

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FLUX, an affinity group of AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), is urging people nationwide to contact their Senators and tell them to vote against Senate Bill S.9 which would bar transgender and intersex girls and women from participating in sports at federally funded schools and universities. Because the bill hinges on determining a person’s sex by their “reproductive biology and genetics at birth,” it would subject all women and girls to invasive, harmful enforcement.

“S. 9 would alter Title IX—the law protecting students from sex discrimination—and create a federal mandate to exclude and discriminate. It’s shameful, and frankly, the most un-American thing our Senators could do,” said FLUX International President Queen Victoria Ortega. “Everyone knows this is a complete farce. Proponents tipped their hand when they tried to imply that trans women have advantages in darts and chess. This is just the latest attempt to legalize hatred and prejudice. If lawmakers really cared about women’s sports, they would equalize access to facilities and stop abuse by predatory coaches.”

“Not only is this bill unnecessary, as it speaks to less than 1 percent of the total population, but it also is completely absurd. Authentic academic study after study confirms that transgender women have no inherent advantage in sports. In fact, trans women especially face unique, harmful challenges that degrade their physical capabilities,” Queen Chela DeMuir, FLUX’s International Vice President explained. “We are asking people to stand with FLUX and take action. It takes less than two minutes to urge your Senators to vote NO on S. 9 and tell them sports should build communities, not divide them. Together, we can protect the rights of trans and intersex youth and ensure Title IX continues to serve its true purpose: safeguarding equality for all students.”
